I will have four types of nucs available; deep frame unmarked queen, deep frame marked queen, medium frame unmarked queen, and medium frame marked queen. Each nuc will have five frames, with adult bees, three frames with capped brood and/or larvae of varying ages. All the bees, capped brood, and larvae are the offspring of the queen in the nuc. The other two frames will have a mix of honey, nectar, and pollen.
Pick up options: Bring your hive in the brood chamber configuration (see below) and I will install your nuc into it. Or, while supplies last pay - $15 more for a cardboard nuc transportation box that I provide and will place your nuc frames into for you to take home. Your nuc frames will be pulled out of multi box nucleus colony. I use the frames that remain to start the next generation nucleus colony.
Note: To successfully transport your nuc in the hive brood chamber configuration you need to ratchet strap together the outer cover, inner cover, brood box full with the nuc frames plus your frames, bottom board, entrance reducer or screened entrance barrier to keep the bees in. Bungee cords and cinch straps will not work! They will not hold a hive tightly together for transport and bees will escape into your vehicle.
Producing honey bees is a weather and temperature sensitive process. Cooler rainy weather slows honey bee colony population and growth. Warm and hot weather accelerates honey bee colony population and growth. As a result the forecast pick up date for your package or nuc stated on the website may change. It is the customer’s responsibility to check the website and verify the pick up date for package bees and nucs. Nucs are expected to be available for pickup in mid to late April. Only 100 are expected to be available, therefore orders will be honored in order of the payments received.
Note: The queens in the nucs are the result of over five years of grafting from Minnesota Hygienic Queens as well as stock from survivor queens that excelled in our harshest environments plus breeders from Latshaw's and other renowned breeders. Some queen cells from Dave Miska are added to keep genetic diversity.
